Isaac Ray Hedgepeth
Isaac Ray Hedgepeth, 71, of Littleton, NC, died peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2013. Ray was born in Halifax County on July 11, 1941 and was one of eleven children of the late Dora Elaine Warren Hedgepeth and Isaac Levi Hedgepeth. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Beulah Dickens and Lois Hux, and his brothers, Rupert, Lathan and Roger Hedgepeth.
Ray was the owner-operator of Ray’s Wall Coverings for over 40 years. He was a lover of old tractors and 1940’s Ford trucks.
Ray is survived by Sharon L. Talley; his two sons, Anthony Ray ''Tony'' Hedgepeth and Thomas Allen Hedgepeth, both of Fairfax, VA; three sisters, Dorothy Matthews of Halifax, Lillian Ball of Mechanicsville, VA and Peggy Bishop of Durham; two brothers, John Hedgepeth, and Mike Hedgepeth and his wife, Starlette, both of Halifax; several cousins, nieces and nephews, including two special adopted grandchildren, Libby and Lainey Cheek.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Center Baptist Church in Halifax with the Rev. Aaron Pendley and Rev. Grady Dickens officiating. Burial will follow in the Hedgepeth family cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 19, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who cared for Ray during his illness.
In lieu of flowers the family is setting up a fund to create a memorial for living trees in Ray’s honor.
